It may not be the most delicious thing in the world, like say, a strawberry smoothie or a pumpkin spice latte, but it definitely is the healthiest, nutritious & the most beneficial to your body. Believe it or not, along with Pumpkin Spice Latte, the other most Instagram-ed drink is the Celery Juice. It’s one of those superfoods that has a myriad of benefits, including reducing blood pressure, getting rid of inflammation, has lots of antioxidants, and it keeps your gut healthy.

Other than in a salad, check out some of the reasons why Celery is extremely beneficial as a juice & why it’s trending on Instagram as #CeleryJuice is totally justified.
Celery Juice & Gut Health
Celery juice is known to replenish an essential part of your stomach that helps digest food, which is the gastric mucus. The gastric mucus or the lining of the stomach secretes or releases HCl (hydrochloric acid) which aids in the breakdown of food, especially proteins. Since it helps replenish your stomach’s mucous membrane, it also helps with acid reflux, ulcers and even acidity.
Celery juices also contain a large amount of water content which makes it extremely hydrating. It helps with bloating, and puffiness and is known to act as a mild and natural laxative and diuretic which comes in handy if you’re prone to constipation.
There is speculation over the fact that juicing Celery causes most of its fibre content to be lost and you might already know, fibres play an important role in keeping your digestive system healthy & happy as it helps smooth out the movement of food in your gut. So my suggestion, have a glass of celery juice and everytime you make a salad, add some plain ole celery. You get the benefits of celery juice and well as the Celery.
Celery as a Natural Anti-Inflammatory
According to studies, celery juice is high on phytonutrients which are basically plant compounds that can help reduce inflammation in the body. Oxidative stress on your body is a thing, and it happens. It’s when free radicals accumulate in your body and can damage your body’s cells, proteins and even DNA.
As one of the health benefits of celery juice, it can help combat & fight against oxidative stress, and leave your body healthy, and your skin glowing. Just like Celery, one of the facts about bananas is that it has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidising properties that can help combat a lot of ailments and infections. Celery juices are known to boost your immune system and help fight off many infections (due to its antimicrobial properties), especially in the digestive system and UTIs.
Lowers Blood Pressure & Cholesterol
According to some studies, Celery contains 3-n-butylphthalide, a compound that helps reduce the bad cholesterol in your body. One of the main contributors to high blood pressure is LDL fats (or bad cholesterol). Celery is high on water content and is extremely hydrating. This also contributes to maintaining healthy blood pressure, kidney function, body temperature and waste excretion.
One of celery juice benefits lies in the 3-n-butylphthalide compound as it helps with the elasticity of the blood vessels and arteries and prevents the deposition of fats, therefore reducing the risks of hypertension. And it has many calming and relaxing properties, especially to your nerves, which can help with migraine headaches.
Packed with Nutrients & Healthy
When we juice Celery, most of its fibre content is removed so what’s left out is just a lot of nutrients. Celery is loaded with a lot of minerals and vitamins that are known to have antioxidant properties such as Vitamin A, C and K and, it is high on minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, folate and potassium.
Due to its many antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties due to these vitamins and minerals, celery juice is exceptionally great for your skin. It prevents damage to your skin due to free radicals and UV radiations. It is also known to help with acne and psoriasis, however, more research needs to be done on this.
When Should I Take It?
One of the best ways to start healthy living at home is, first thing every morning consume one glass of celery juice that is 16 ounces on an empty stomach. Wait for approximately half an hour or 20 minutes before eating or consuming anything else, including water.
I usually like to have two glasses of celery juice, once in the morning and once in the evening. Whatever floats your boat. The reason I have a glass in the evening is because I feel like it curbs my appetite and reduces my tendency to evening snacking. And hey, many claim that celery juice is great for weight loss. Which it is as it helps curb your appetite, and when you constitute all that sugary and carbonated drinks for celery juice, you are bound to lose weight and get on the healthy track.
Can’t I just eat it?
Yes, you most definitely can. You can include it in your salads or just munch on a celery stalk or two. However, juicing it will bring out the concentration of the nutrients present in Celery which can be a lot more beneficial to your body.
How do I make Celery Juice?
There’s no rocket science to it. It’s actually a lot easier than you think. You can blend a whole bunch of Celery after thoroughly washing it and cutting off its base. Blend the celery stalks with a quarter cup of water until it’s completely smooth. Once done, sieve it out and squeeze the excess Juice. There you have it, celery juice!
If you have a juicer, all the more better. Follow the cleaning process and feed the celery stalk through a juicer. And there’s your fresh celery juice to start your day!
At Auraat, we believe in providing you with information that is beneficial to your health. So substitute those unhealthy sugary or carbonated drinks for a fresh glass of celery juice. Your body will thank you for it.
According to Anthony Williams in his book, Liver Rescue “Celery Juice is one of the most powerful and healing juices we can drink. Just 16 ounces of fresh celery juice every morning on an empty stomach can transform your health and digestion in as little as one week.”
Stay safe, happy, healthy by having a glass of celery juice!
